All things for a reason

This is my motto, but I never actually believe it until it proves to be true. So…today I’m at orientation and get an invitation from last years legal writing and research class – do I want to be a research assistant? Why yes, as a matter of fact I do. How awesome. Also, the fact pattern for moot court competition will be distributed this week, and the mock trial competition is also scheduled for early in the semester. Add that to the alternative dispute resolution team that I am already involved with, combined with the research project discussed in my last post, and viola: If I had made law review, I would not have time for all of these fine activities. Not only that, but apparently my writing skills aren’t that bad after all – otherwise, I wouldn’t be offered this fine assistant-ship. I am really glad I worked orientation, and I am ready to go back and give it my all one more time. Wish me luck, and to all those reading, good luck to you as well.

I didn’t even apply for law review because I decided being pregnant and law review wouldn’t mix well. But that didn’t stop me from getting a clerkship after graduation. If your writing is strong, then that will shine with or without the law review line on your resume.
